Diversions, notes, "blog" entries, and nuggets appear on this screen.

Castlevania Ringtones

I'm creating ringtones from my favorite videogames. Listen now and download them to your web-enabled phone in MIDI format at http://kriston.net/tones/.

Journal (Blog)

I have a Slashdot.org Journal which serves as my "blog."

Doomsday

I present a formatted copy of an essay by Bruce Beach concerning the survivability of a nuclear holocaust.

Kevin's Story

Read an unpublished excerpt of Kevin's Story, Chapter 1.

Other Stuff

Windows CE runs some interesting toys. I came across an HP 620LX that I use to keep track of appointments. It's not as easy to hold as a Pilot but it sure looks better. I use it to read long articles (something the Pilot could never do well) and play Infocom text adventures. They're now calling this old art form "Interactive Fiction" and there are plenty of new games to play.

We can't work all the time... well, maybe. I'm constantly listening to new music on satellite radio. In the pockets of space between trips to the music store and fighting the solid wall of traffic that exists between Vienna and Fairfax, I'm feeling my hands "rumble" over Nintendo 64, Sony PlayStation, Sega Saturn, and any number of stupid PC games. Not to mention browsing the stupid web every chance I get. There's just so much to learn and relearn, and it's nearly impossible to stay ahead of the curve in the world of web software development.

When I saw that Linux is finally available for the Nintendo 64, it made me anxious to take a soldering iron to one of our N64's. But I compromised and decided to get a Sony Net Yaroze development system instead. Hey, MIPS is MIPS. Well, this site is hosted on an R4400, the Nintendo 64 is an R4300i and the PSX is an R3000. And, knowing this, can someone explain how it's possible that Silicon Graphics (who now owns MIPS) is hurting so much with all these popular platforms using their chips? Must be because of all those supercomputer sales to the communists. I wonder if they play Starfox64 over there?

I'm not a writer by trade, but I have managed to get a couple of articles published in 2600 magazine, and have the tee-shirts to prove it. Look for them in issue 12:4 and 13:3. I mostly wrote them to get free subscriptions, but I finally gave in and became a lifetime subscriber. With that order I also got another armload of tee-shirts and a couple years of back-issues. It's a good deal.

One of them was originally posted to alt.2600 on USENET, but I'm not sure if it got caught up in the DejaNews mischief.

Here is an article I wrote for the Computer Privacy Digest that describes how to use cookies for nefarious purposes on your favorite local "free" email service.

Development is much more fun than writing, though I might change my mind some day.
