Minitik
The AOL Instant Messenger has truly changed the way we
communicate on the internet and it is entrenched on our desktops at
AOL more than any other application. The Tcl/TK version of the AOL
Instant Messenger and its special protocol has made a world of
customization available to Windows and Macintosh users. It also opens
up AIM to Unix users who cannot or don't want to run the horrible Java
version.
If your job requires instant messaging as much as mine does, you
probably find yourself cursing the buddy list program for preventing
you from being productive on your computer. I started a minimalist
version of Tik called MiniTik at http://minitik.sourceforge.net/ to address these
issues more formally than my Tik "Minimalist" patch had. It is
available under the GNU Public License just like Tik was.
MiniTik evolved directly from Tik 0.75 (the last AOL release) and
continues the legacy of the minimalist patch that I started early in
Tik's open-source development cycle. Everything you'll need to set is
detailed in the *.sample files that come with MiniTik. If you're
already a Tik user, you'll only need to copy your *.config files over
to ~/.minitik.
Please visit http://minitik.sourceforge.net/ to try it out! I
welcome suggestions to make MiniTik even more mini.
Enjoy!
